covering for my husband

My husband is very active in church and community activities and he has always enjoyed a very positive reputation. What no one knows is that he had an affair several years ago and while we were able to hold the marriage together, it hasn't been the same since. We cope and we are good parents. It is not unusual for someone to say to me (sometimes in front of him) how they admire him. People see him as a person of integrity. When they say this, I smile and say Yes he's a great guy. Inside though I feel like I am partly lying because while I still love him, sometimes I ache and wonder how he could have done what he did. The pain doesn't go away.
I hope people thinking about having an affair will realize that the minute they do this, life changes forever, and not for the better.
